In February 2012, my grandmother had surgery done. She had a colon resection, her appendix and an ovary taken out. A few weeks later her pathology came back saying that she had ovarian cancer in the ovary they took out. She had a CA-125 test (Cancer Antigen test) and her counts came back in normal range. My Grandmother then had some CT scans which were negative. So far so good. We went to see a specialist for GYN oncology and the Dr. wanted her to start chemotherapy. They wanted to do 6 months of chemotherapy every 21 days. My Grandmother has chosen not to go that route. We have two awesome dr’s that have suggested she have surgery. They will go and do a hysterectomy. Once the pathology comes back on that we will know if she needs to do chemotherapy or if she is cancer free. My Grandmother’s surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, May 9th.
